Bunion Surgery?

I am thinking about removing my bunions on my feet near surgery. I went to the doctor and he said that I would need surgery because the bunions are really big and that when I achieve older it will only product my other toes more crooked and cause more problems. He said I would have to own surgery over the summer because I will be off of it for up to 3 months and it will take a year for it to completely treat. I am 17 and I was wondering if anyone has have this surgery and could tell me more about it. I am terrifically nervous about it b/c he said they would own to put screws in my big toe and cut some bone bad of my foot. Please help or give guidance. Thanks
