Best Answer: Yep, you can chew gum and when i got my braces my orthodontist recommended the trident kind with Recaldent because it strengthens your teeth. You shouldn't drink hard things like carrots or tough candy (unless you suck on it) or really sticky things. They're not as bad as everyone says but the first week they hurt a lot so sort sure you have Tylenol/Advil and squishy foods (ice cream, pudding, yogurt, soup, jello).

You can chew gum but one and only sugar-free and sugar-less. You can eat lots of things that are soft but you can't eat caramel, corn on the cob, and you can't drink soda, orange liquid, and lemonade because it has acid and it's bad for your braces. And if you want to know how they put it on I'll bring up to date you. First they put the bands on at the end of your teeth. Don't worry it doesn't hurt you only just have to bit on something. Then they put this big circle thing in your mouth. The orthodontist comes and puts the bonding agent on and the brackets. After it's done drying, they will put the wire on and you choose a color. Most orthodontists will tell you a catalogue of foods they do not want you to eat. Gum is usually on that list. Really anything really crunchy or sticky is on that list. The pretext for that is so you don't break the wires or pull off elastics/bands etc. Also no pop.
