Cracked tooth. helpp!?
Okay so i have this habit of chewing ice! yeah, desperate.. i know.. but anyways i have chipped a tooth away piece by piece until only a 1/4 was gone. while today i was eating and cracked that quarter in partly.. so i have about an 1/8 of a tooth left, 3rd tooth subsidise on my top right side.. This tooth is like razor sharp at one end, brown contained by the center.. and like rubbery at some points. i know its bad and im going to go see the dentist.. but i be wondering if anyone could tell me whats going to happen? will they do an extraction? or a root canal or what? i HATE the dentist.. I hold an EXTREME fear and haven't been there within about 2 years.. help!
Best Answer: The brown and rubbery part is the dentin, which is the second division of the tooth, under the enamel that has been chipped away. Being brown, it get affected by bacteria. A filling won't do, because of the proportion of the substance loss. Maybe an extraction would be the quickest solution, but not moderately the best, because you`ll remain with a gap, and the surrounding teeth will start to shift their position. I`d say opt for a root strait treatment. Then they put a post-and-core foundation - a screw-like thingy that gets cemented into the canals, and on top it will recieve a crown.
