Why is it black between my teeth?

Between a couple of my front teeth there is like some sort of black/dark brown coloring along the gumline on the corners of the teeth- and it is not coming off when I brush or floss. Does this be a sign of its a cavity or tooth decay? I usually brush 3-4 times a day but I havent started flossing regularly until recently. I'm going to calendar a dentist appointment but just thought maybe I could get an concept of what to expect on here,
