Answer Please...?!?
I wanted to know if this is a true abscess or not:
A few days ago, I accidentally bumped my upper gums with my toothbrush while brushing my teeth. It moved out a small cut there, and I left it alone.
Now, looking at it, I see a small white spot. I'm worried that it might be an abscess, but I'm not sure. I've posted this ask before, and the general feelings was that it wasn't an abscess.
It's a little swollen contained by that area, but really only hurts if I touch it.
I also needed to know if you always get a disorientation from this (if it's a true abscess).
Thanks. And much appreciated.
Answers: What you have is actually call an Apthous Ulcer, which is caused by trauma to the gum tissue (from the brush ), or sometimes from very caustic foods, (lemonade, lemons ,limes, tomatoes.) They can be painful and last for roughly a week, but will disappear. It is unlikely you got an abcess from bumping with a toothbrush. An abcess occur when the nerve of a tooth is damaged, or from gum disease. It usually swells slightly, and looks more similar to a pimple, which bursts, and then may re-appear. You can get a hurtful taste in your mouth from any of these conditions, but the ulcer will go away. Try saline water rinsing, and maybe some Oragel, if it is tight...
