Can braces darken a tooth?
My friend got braces a year and a half ago and her front tooth looks dark than the rest. Is that normal?
Answers: When braces move your teeth around, it is possible for the nerve to be traumatized - this is what cause the discoloration, it's not from a lack of brushing.
When a tooth is discolored (can range from a grayish tone to pale or brown) it's almost always from the red blood cells surrounded by the nerve being ruptured. Over time, the tooth will money from gray to yellow.
The orthodontist should pick up on the discoloration at her next appointment, otherwise she should point it out. It sounds resembling she will likely need a root waterway.
A couple of things could be possible here.
The tooth could be dying. Trauma from the ortho treatment happens, not too often, but happen. Sometimes a person will bump their tooth & things seem fine, next years later it dies. This happens process more.
The other possiblity is that it's simply the color is being dragged down by the brackets. Teeth are translucent. Light can go through them. Because of this the brackets are making the teeth appear dark. Once the braces come off & the teeth are all cleaned up, you'll know the true color.
But if it's individual 1 tooth, it could be dying. Your friend should get an x-ray of the root-tip to check for abcess. If it's dying, a root canal will be within order to save the tooth.
Hope this help.
Braces don't darken teeth but if when the braces are taken off and the glue is not properly removed it may appear dark that it did before braces but if you brush well the chunk that didnt have the brace shouldnt be darker. if you dont verbs regularly yeah. Jut clean your teeth thoroughly.
