why am i podginess if my bmi say i'm usual cargo?

i'm 13 years old and i have a bmi of 23.2 at the moment, this is supposedly the 'normal weight' although i am clearly over bulk with big legs, love handles and moobs. i am loosing weight at the moment although i be curious as to why it says i am a normal weight when i'm not. it's pretty a wide gap apparantly from 18.5 to 24.9 is 'normal weight'. i weigh 9 stone 9 :(
Best Answer: Damien K, 18.5-24.9 is considered a mundane weight when using BMI, 18 is actually underweight. But, as was mentioned BMI can be unreliable. It doesn't bear into account the percentage of body fat you have compared to lean body mass (muscle.) You may hold a normal BMI, but you could carry extra body fat which BMI doesn't weigh up. If this is the case and you feel uncomfortable, you can lose mass with cardio, but you should do weight training exercises also to gain muscle. However, at your age you don't have to verbs about these things as much. Stay healthy and exercise and eat powerfully, but don't obsess over your weight and body appearance. As you grow, you may just fluently lose the excess fat and gain more muscle. Many people go through a phase when they grain they are "chubby" (not saying you are, but clearly sounds like you think you are), but as you grow your body change.

You may be the right weight, but you may need to tone your muscles. Exercising will help, especially yoga or cargo training. Don't be surprised or discouraged if your weight goes up slightly when you first begin exercising, though--muscle weigh more than fat.

Can exercising engineer you smarter?

Don't trust some BMI number. Mine say's I'm "underweight" but I am perfectly fine, just greatly tall and skinny. Maybe you look at yourself as overweight when you're not that bad. I don't know what to tell you.

Do NOT listen to damien k... he quite clearly does not know what he is talking nearly.. between 20-25 is average 25+ is slightly overweight, 30+obese and 40+ morbidly obese 18-20 is underweight and anything below 18 is grossly underweight! you are only young and have not properly developed your body yet-within immensity etc its perfectly normal. dont be fooled and dont be a statistic who falls into the underweight category.

BMI's aren't very accurate, by the way. They don't means your muscle mass so that might not be your BMI. If you are clearly overweight, then you don't need a BMI measurement.

Weight loss issues!!?

Because it's a generalized scale. It's in the common 'range', but it's on the high side of normal. Another example is blood pressure: you don't want it to be 120/80. That number is a normal reading, but not really vigorous because anything over that is considered high blood pressure. You shouldn't be too close to either side--try to win right in the middle of 'normal' on the bmi scale, which is around 21. Hope that helps.
