Does my Daughter hold Cystic Fybrosis?
My 16 month old daughter is constantly sick. she gets an awful rattly chesty cough, sometimes she coughs that much it makes her throw up! Depending on when she second ate it's either the food she last ate or really thick mucosy stuff...She usually have the cough for at least a week or 2 then is fine for bout a week maybe 2 if she's lucky, later she's back to being sick again.
She had a blood interview last week to check her immunoglobulin levels but they all come back fine, it just showed that she had a viral infection as she be sick with what was thought as croup.
Sometimes she gets really congested and stuffy near a yucky runny nose.
She gets constipated and also gets the runs sometimes (not sure if it's related)
She is also have poor weight gain...having put on only 300g within over 2 months.
Do these symptoms sound like CF?
The Dr has suggested we achieve a sweat test done in a month or so if she keeps getting sick..how long should we continue?
I'd love to get s much feedback as possible.

Best Answer: The sweat chloride test is the test for CF. Yes progress ahead and get that done. It could be. Another possibility is asthma. Asthma is an allergy and can mimic RSV, CF, pneumonia and other respiratory diseases. She may be allergic to something in the house or even in her bedroom that continues to trigger it. Get that oral exam done, see if any allergy testing can be done too. Good luck.
Answer: i would go ahead and get her tested...if she's within daycare, she may keep getting exposed to other kids that are carrying various viruses and ratification them around...also, an alternative to the "sweat test" is to lick her forehead from time to time...if it tastes salty, then that could anticipate a problem

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder. I don't know how long your daughter has been having these symptoms but it can be diagnosed near genetic testing. If you do suspect she has CF I would recommend that you insist to your doctor to get her tested so you know for sure.
