how long are cold sores contagious?
My husband gets cold sores. Only about once or twice a year. He has never have them in the genatal areas. I want to no how long after the cold sore is healed can we go subsidise to oral sex? I do not want genatal herpies so please help!

Best Answer: the herpes virus is shed even without the ulcers. be sure he take his meds when he suspects an outbreak is inevitable. odds are you already have the virus as it's related to chicken pox & the common cold. discuss this within full with your gyn.

You can always catch herpes, even if you're not have an outbreak. But, it's less likely when there isn't an outbreak. I would dawdle until his outbreak is completely over to resume normal activity. But you're still running a risk of contracting the virus, just a much lower risk.
