For instance if you are conscious but incompetent to speak due to an injury or some other disabling condition such as stroke, drug reaction etc. This would inform the medical staff that they should keep an eye on your blood sugar and if needed start an intraveneous source to hang on to you from crashing which could aggravate the situation or at the least make you surface more miserable.
