Is my daughter's belly button okay?
She's two weeks old now and when she was 4 days elderly her umbilical cord came off prematurely. The hospital never took the clamp off and they said they be suppose to leave it on (never heard of that; my son's was taken off) so it caught onto everything. Well, it terminated up ripping off only the dry part still departure a stump of fresh umbilical cord. Her belly button seems to be forming around it and when I called into her doctor's, the nurse said to keep wipe it with an alcohol swab. Well, now you can't even see the stump so I can't wipe it now, but it's starting to outflow a little puss (so she most likely has an infection now) but the nurse said it be fine. I'm thinking of taking her to urgent care because I really don't believe the nurse. Can anything bad happen near this? I've tried looking it up a lot lately and have found that since the cord is dead (but assuming still fresh) it have no nerves so nothing can happen to her but it still makes me iffy. Please sustain.
Best Answer: Chances are it will be fine and I would continue as they have directed you to do. But if you notice any rosiness or fever in the area, It's time for your daughter to be see. If your still have the problems tomorrow, call and specifically try to talk to your doctor.
