In lingo of the foot, what is the difference between supination and inversion?

As far as I've read, they're the same thing, but yet it also say that inversion aids in supination? I don't get it, someone help? That's what I thought too, but when I looked up and defined it, it said "Rotating a mitt or foot outward on its long axis. The movement is done with the muscles in the forearm or lower leg." Is this wrong info that's just confusing me?
Best Answer: It depends on to whom you settle. When you walk it involves ankle and forefoot. If that group tends to turn in later they usually refer to supination. Inversion is the motion of the ankle turning inwards. As a Physical Therapist I usually separate the two. Podiatrists tend to use supination a lot more than I would. General practitioners tend to use supination. If you put your hand out and turn palm up - supination, palm down would be pronation. It applies to the foot, just doesn't move terribly far. More like 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other.
