The band-aid pulled the scab past its sell-by date! What to do?
I cut my hand on a nail(one that's in the wall and it was not rusty). It's over something like 1/4 of my hand. I had cleaned it up and put neosporin on it and bandage it up. When I took the covering off to change it,it tore 90% of the scar sour that had formed/was trying to form. I cleaned it up and stopped the bleeding but didn't bandage it back up resembling before,I just have a piece of gauze loosely over it so I don't go and get stuff in it or bleed.
How do I care for it now? Type of bandage or ways to bandage it up so this doesn't happen again?
Best Answer: Since the cut sounds fairly long, try using nonstick gauze instead of band-aids. You probably have some of the band-aid adhesive touching the wound and that's why the scab got pulled off. Use neosporin to prevent infection and maintain the cut moist and bandage it with nonstick gauze. Change the bandage each day. If it feels like it's sticking, don't just tug it off. Soak it in warm river first and it should come off easily, and leave the scab attached to your appendage.

Even if the pin was not rusty, make sure you're up to date on your Tetanus shot. You can cover the wound with gauze moistened next to Hydrogen Peroxide and then a dry dressing over it. If the gauze is sticking when you try to pull it off again, soak the gauze within saline or hydrogen peroxide again to remove it without pulling the scab off yet again.Related Questions...
