Rx for gynecomastia? (Pharmacology know-how req'd).?
One of my friends used SSRI's for about three years and developed Gynecomastia. In most people, the discontinuation of the SSRI's would mean a reduction/elimination of the gynecomastia. However, his enjoy persisted. My silly pre-med knowledge would do him no good, so obviously he will have to consult a physician. But, theoretically, could the size of his chest be reduced by reducing the aromatization of androgens? Of course, this is assuming that the chest is composed of estrogen-responsive glandular tissue. The gynecomastia might not even have anything to do next to the SSRI's, instead a latent hypogonadism (but I don't want to tell him that). Surgery is so invasive...bodybuilders use meds like Arimidex, Tamoxifen, and Clomid to prevent the formation of gynecomastia cause by use of steroids. I am just trying to apply similar concepts here. I have yet to read a memoir entry about pharmaceutical interventions for gynecomastia, but it seems like it could work. What am I missing?
