Mental Health system within the U.S?
Ok I live in Canada so I dont need information on where to go and get help in the states cause I hold my own doctors here and everything. But I do have a question that I was hoping some Americans can answer. I commonly see people on here asking questions on how they can get back for their mental illness without going to the doctor because they can't afford it, dont have insurance etc... That bothers the hell out of me!! I propose isnt there a system in the U.S for mental health that get people that help they need for free? I own a psychologist, psychiatrist, group therapy, nutritionist etc... all to help me beside my mental illness(depression, OCD, GAD, SAD and panic disorder) and I dont pay a cent for any of it. Its all covered by strength care.
I just find it so hard to believe that in attendance arent free services like that offered in the U.S. someone please tell me that here is! I know there are mental health associations in the states in recent times like there are over here...dont they provide free services? I'd appreciate any answers cause its freshly bothering me! Thanks :)
Edit: To aholes like here comes the sun.I don't mean anything bad by it, resembling I'm not insulting the U.S or anything. And tax rates are just fine. its a small price to pay for everyones form. if anything people over here complain that we should have better health thought.

Best Answer: Some counties surrounded by the state do provide some mental health services, but its based on your income, and the waiting period to bring back in to see a councelor is months. And when you do get in to see someone, its within and out because there are so many people trying to get hold of in. When you do see a county councelor, you are limited to 3-4 sessions. They try to set you up with a regular psychiatric therapist, which unfortunately costs quite a bit of money. I am lucky enough to enjoy insurance. Very good insurance in fact. I procure unlimited benefits at no cost to me. I think its ridiculous that insurance companies limit you to a certain amount of benefits a year. Some or most mental illnesses are purely as or are more serious than other conditions. If I had a heart condition, would they only let me see my cardiologist 6 times a year? I find that the US healthcare system is ridiculous. My psychiatrist charges my ins company $190 for a 15 minute look in, and my outpatient therapist charges $320 for a 50 minute appointment. Its just horrible to think of adjectives the people out there who really need aid but can't afford it. It makes me sick!!

I own mental health problems and the state pays for my needs. I had to be access as disabled in order to get the assistance that I get.My meds and doctors are paid for. I will be on another insurance program from the government that covers most of everything else, it's call Medicare. I'm also am on SSDI(money) from the government. It's not enough to live on but it helps. There is free mental and medical strength where I live but the programs are over whelmed with people. Budget cuts hold made it hard for everyone. I'm not permanently disabled and hope to get hindmost to some what of a normal life. If your working and you don't have insurance and voice you want to see a therapist, you can see one who charges on a sliding scale of how much money you earn. But mental health is within for people. I just don't know if they all compensate for meds. Not all cases are as extreme as others and meds are so costly. I also believe each state does things a little different, but believe me if you want and entail help it's out there. Cella

there are free mental health providers, but the system is over flowing near indigent people. Most people work in the medical profession to variety money, so the free providers are usually operated by people with second rate educations. Some of the free providers hold a waiting list for treatment ( your suicidal, take a number ). There are. It's actually not too difficult to get some form of insurance if you are low income. Many people don't know where on earth to look and others choose to go without insurance.
