Chronic depression and medication by injection every 2-3 weeks?
My CPN just told me that her and my psychiatrist wants to start giving me medication by injection every 2-3 weeks. It would be the practice nurse who will give me the injection. I be told to think about it and will be talking to my CPN in the region of it again next week. To be honest i don't think i will get much input to whether or not i seize the medication or not, i think they have made their minds up already. They cant trust me to take my meds properly and at the moment they are concerned in the order of my safety. Obviously not too much otherwise i would not be on here writing this lol.
What i would like to know is, has anyone ever have medication by injection?
Where do they give you the injection?
What medication's are usually given my injection?
Taking medication by injection is it the same as taking the pills?
Obviously i know you take the pills everyday and i know the injection is every 2-3 weeks.
Thank you for any guidance. Really appreciate it.
Thank you i will look about about xanax i have never hear of it before.
I live in the UK.
I looked it up its called depot medication.
Its a special preparation of medication, which is given by injection. The medication is slowly released into the body over a little weeks.
Best Answer: There are several medications given by injection that have something to do with depression but also beside psychosis involved in the depression including prolixin, risperidone, and haloperidol. I did not find anything seaching under "depot" that had anything to do next to depression as every search under "depot" came up next to a type of steroidal hormone used for either birth control, a thyroid/metabolic disorder, or prostate cancer in males. There is a medication called "depakote" i.e. sometimes given in IV injections, but I have not heard of it person given every few weeks, unless there is a new form of the medication that has come out, which is possible, I suppose. You would be astute to confirm the exact name of the drug being used before you agree to them administer it to you. Taking medication by injection ensures that the appropriate amount of medication to be disseminated in the system and usually more accurately than taking pills, as one can miss a dose of the oral medication, but once it's injected into your system, there is no passageway to retract or get it out, it will have to run the course of being metabolized by your body - you should have a sneaking suspicion that about this and if you are willing to bear the side effects until the drug wear off if you have any. It is possible there is a exotic form of depakote that has been developed and the UK is known for one more open to trying different forms of therapy than in the US, where on earth I am. If it is depakote, in a new injectable form, then it really likely could help your depression, especially if you are know to have mood swings from elevated to low. This medication has been used in pill form for heaps years with great results. So, my only question would be - what exactly is contained by the medication they are planning to use? Go for it if it is depakote, if it is not, please get more information before trying it. Good Luck.

I have a B.A. surrounded by psych and I have NEVER heard of anything like this. Not even contained by my medications class taught by a practicing clinical psychiatrist... You need to do some serious research because if it is so different that I hadn't heard about it (I graduated contained by December) then you may be a trial guinea pig and you'll need to decide if you're of a mind to take the risk of unknown long term side effects or if you'd rather newly take your medication like you're supposed to.Related Questions...
