My Boyfriend Has Autism...How Do I Cope With His Behaviour?
My boyfriend has Autism. His parents informed me of this 2 weeks ago. I gently approached it to him the other day, and he responded weakly by shouting, saying he's not affected by it, and it doesnt make him any different from anybody else... I be sensitive, understanding, and definately not patronizing! He has ADHD, and Anger Disorder too.
He did everything he could to be next to me, and at the beginning or our relationship (6 months ago), he was quite loving and loved spending time beside me... Now, its quite different. He says his feelings are stronger in a minute that we've been together longer. In the last 2 months, I've noticed he is constantly wanting physical contact but surrounded by the wrong way! Contast playfighting, pushing, touching, poking, prodding! He doesn't mean it maliciously, and he doesnt propose to hurt me, but sometimes it appears he's trying to vent frustration! Is this his way of showing that his feelings for me are developing and he deosnt know how to deal beside them?
I've been having a difficult time lately... feeling comparatively worthless (fault of family!), I have cried twice in 3 days infront of him...he debate to me about it, but isnt really sympathetic...its as if it makes him uncomfortable. He may even shout and way of walking away when I cry. (I don't cry often!). He has hugged me once.He also acknowledged that he is one to make me quality worthless too at times. He doesnt seem to give me an answer as to why he does this... I know he cares almost me. He does open up to me from time-to-time..
Is any aspect of this frustrating behaviour a result of Autism, ADHD, Anger? I love him to pieces, but natural instint shows a famine of care for me, when it could be down to his difficulty in communication? He shows his mother and father affection in the correct ways, but seem to have problems showing me? HE is 21 years old.
Best Answer: People with ADHD respond differently than a man who's not diagnosed. Does he give somebody a lift certain medication? Sometimes people with ADHD must pinch certain medication to restrain mood swings and control their behaviour. If not, then atleast try to transmit him how you feel. I have a friend with ADHD who is a upright listener and likes me to tell him if he does something wrong. Take advice from this girl who have a close friend who's diagnosed with ADHD.
