Being a female, my partner tries to convince me to wear no panties at all when I'm at home or wear nothing when sleeping to avoid infections and microbes. I thought it was the other way round. Any thoughts ?

Actually, not wearing underwear lets the area air out, which reduce infection. As long as your aren't sleeping somewhere odd like a toilet seat, here is no reason you'd get an infection, it would actually be better for you (especially if your panties are something excluding cotton).
