Best Answer: I'm sorry that your mother is facing such an illness. And I'm sorry that I do not know anything nearly the healthcare system or facilites in Sri Lanka. The diagnosis given is for Colon cancer that is at the junction of the rectum and sigmoid(large intestine), in that also appears to be a single deposit (not sure what size) on the liver. The usual treatment (here in the US) would be to have surgery that would remove the cancerous part of the colon and re-section the bowel. This will remove as much of the cancer as possible. After she recovers, the doctor may suggest Chemotherapy (may be IV or oral) or radiation - these are designed to kill off any secondary cancer cells. Your mother already has involvement with her liver - sometimes surgery can be done on the liver - sometimes not - depends on where on earth it is and how large. The doctor will probably suggest chemotherapy for the liver cancer. In regards to telling the forgiving (your mother) - the doctor must inform the patient of the disease that was found and also what the treatment and prognosis is for the disease. It is devastating to hear that you have a life-threatening disease, but it also give the patient time to spend with their family and to clear any arrangements regarding childcare, finances, etc. prior to having surgery - knowing that it will be weeks or months of treatment trying to beat this disease. Hopefully you hold family and friends that can help by being a support system for your mother and your house. I can tell by your letter that you are scared and worried for your mother - and I preference that I could tell you that everything will be OK -- but the fact of the matter is - that respectively case if different depending on the amount of cancer involvement, what "stage" it is, your mother'[s health, and other factors. I can report to you that it will be hard for a time - as she will be going through a lot. I hope you have appropriate doctors. I hope she remains positive and I will keep you both in my prayers. May God Bless you.
